Quill Quest is not dead yet

Yesterday J.K. Rowling announced that "Pottermore is a free website that builds an exciting online experience around the reading of the Harry Potter books." It will be a place for people to reexperience the Harry Potter stories with extra information and in an interactive way. Users will get a wand, be sorted into the different Hogwarts houses by the Sorting Hat as it happens in the story, and have access to additional details not printed in the books. Pottermore will also be the exclusive place to purchase the stories digitally as an ebook or audiobook. No where in the announcement did Rowling mention a treasure hunt.

However, the Quill Quest has not been completely ruled out yet, though maybe re-imagined.

Open registration to Pottermore will not be until October. However, you can go to today and submit your email address to be notified about a special early registration that begins July 31, which happens to be Harry Potter's birthday. The Pottermore press release states that on July 31 "an online challenge will be launched, whereby the first million people to complete their registration will gain early entry into the website, and help put final touches to the experience."

An online challenge...this could be the Quill Quest. It's not quite the grandiose scavaging the globe for wands type of challenge, but would still be fun. My guess is that it will be similar to the revealing of Pottermore which was done by releasing 10 map coordinates accross multiple HP fan sites that led to the letters P-O-T-T-E-R-M-O-R-E when searched for on Secret Street View.
Style sheet on refers to "magicbook" and "quill".

One final note that leads me to believe the Quill Quest may still be real. And this I believe is the biggest hint. I was digging through the page source of in search of clues and in the CSS file that is named registration.master.min.css there are element IDs and styling for "magicbook" and "quill". The "quill" element has a background image called "images/magical-quill/quill.png" (though that path currently leads to a "file not found"). These elements are not on the page, but I believe this is in preparation for July 31 when the Quill Quest will begin. I believe the designers of the site had these elements in the style sheet for the test version of the site but overlooked removing them when the site went live on Thursday. On July 31 I think everyone who submitted their email address will be sent a clue that will ultimately lead them to a page with a quill that will allow them to sign up for the site in a magic book. I also believe that this magic book is the one sitting on the desk in the background of with the owl perched atop. If you look closely at the picture beside the book is a jar of ink, but there is no quill pictured.
Could this be the early July 31 sign up book?  Where's the quill to sign it?

This whole post is basically wild and hopeful speculation on my part and I could end up very wrong. But I think the Quill Quest will be announced July 31.

I think you're on to something! Elsewhere, others hve commented on the leaves which looked like quills on the u-tube page with the 32 owls and it's certainly odd that a) there is no quill in the desk and b) the code makes reference to such an item. Hopefully it wil be a task akin to the type aspects so everyone gets a realistic chance of solving the puzzle, rather than just the over-obsessed adult fans (oops!)
